Many killers will even have sex with their victims, which is the ultimate form of intimacy. “That way, the possibility of rejection is null” (Blakie,2007). They will do anything for their victim to not reject them. They will use manipulation and charisma to reel them in. They are also usually very persuasive.
In addition, some serial killers kill so they can feel power. Killing is a way they can feel empowered. They like to have the power to pick if someone lives or dies, or how they are killed. It's all about picking the perfect victim. “They have a belief that “the power to cause pain is the only power that matters, the power to kill and destroy, because if you can’t kill you are always subject to those who can” (Card).” (Blakie, 2007).
In other words, some serial killers need to “improve” somebody or “perfect” them. They may see a category of people as unclean or that they need to be fixed. Some target women, children, and even prostitutes. As an example, Jeffery Dahmer targeted boys and would only kill them. They may think that removing these types of people could improve the world. The killer might also think that they are doing the victim a favor and they should be grateful he or she chose them (Blakie, 2007).
Furthermore, they mostly get addicted to the feeling that they get when they kill somebody. Its the rush, or adrenaline. Another thing is that the killers know what they're doing, they know their consequences, and their punishment. They know it's wrong and they know that they will soon get caught. So they think they might as well keep doing it while they still can and since they are just going to get caught anyway (Blakie, 2007).
